چکیده

We investigate the flow patterns of Newtonian and viscoelastic fluids in microchannels containing bifurcations. The Newtonian fluid used as a reference is de-ionized water, while the non-Newtonian fluid used in the experiments has a shear rheology similar to that of human blood. The geometrical shape of the channels used reproduce bifurcating vessels, typically encountered in microcirculation networks. Visualizations of the flow patterns were performed for a wide range of flow rates using streak photography. For the viscoelastic fluid flow, recirculations appear upstream of the bifurcating point, which increase in size when the elasticity of the flow is increased. On the other hand, for the Newtonian fluid flow, no recirculations were observed within the flow rate range under investigation.

Simulation study of Hemodynamic in Bifurcations for Cerebral Arteriovenous Malformation using Electrical Analogy

Background and Objective: Cerebral Arteriovenous Malformation (CAVM) hemodynamic is disease condition, results changes in the flow and pressure level in cerebral blood vessels. Measuring flow and pressure without catheter intervention along the vessel is big challenge due to vessel bifurcations/complex bifurcations in Arteriovenous Malformation patients. The vessel geometry in CAVM patients are...

Investigation of electrokinetic mixing in 3D non-homogenous microchannels

A numerical study of 3D electrokinetic flows through micromixers was performed. The micromixers considered here consisted of heterogeneous rectangular microchannels with prescribed patterns of zeta-potential at their walls. Numerical simulation of electroosmotic flows within heterogeneous channels requires solution of the Navier-Stokes, Ernest-Plank and species concentration equations. It is kn...

Asymmetry of red blood cell motions in a microchannel with a diverging and converging bifurcation.

In microcirculation, red blood cells (RBCs) flowing through bifurcations may deform considerably due to combination of different phenomena that happen at the micro-scale level, such as: attraction effect, high shear, and extensional stress, all of which may influence the rheological properties and flow behavior of blood. Thus, it is important to investigate in detail the behavior of blood flow ...

Slip Velocity in Flow and Heat Transfer of Non-newtonian Fluids in Microchannels

The steady-state fully-developed laminar flow of non-Newtonian power-law fluids is examined in a circular microchannel with slip boundary condition and under an imposed constant wall heat flux. Effects of slip as well as the hydrodynamic and thermal key parameters on heat transfer and entropy generation are investigated. The results reveal that increasing the Brinkman number and the flow behavi...
